AHDB UK Passpork to Tastes of Taiwan 英國直達台灣味 — 英國優質豬肉品鑑會

On March 11th 2024, BCCTaipei and our member, AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, co-hosted the British Pork Luncheon - “UK Passpork to Tastes of Taiwan”.

With around 20 attendees, including local importers in Taiwan, the event offered a unique opportunity to savor traditional Taiwanese cuisine prepared with British pork. AHDB's Senior Export Manager, Susan Stewart, was also present, allowing attendees to connect and communicate directly with the UK delegate, face-to-face.

British pork is renowned for its quality, safety, and adherence to welfare standards. It is produced without additives like ractopamine and growth hormones. Additionally, antibiotics are carefully controlled, and efforts are made to prioritise animal welfare, often through free-range farming practices.

The event aimed to introduce British pork to the Taiwan market, highlighting British farmers' commitment to sustainability and animal welfare. Through events like these, our objective is to strengthen ties between the UK and the Asia-Pacific region while promoting British pork to enhance trade relations.

On the first day (28-March), we hosted the "Taiwan British Meat Forum" where the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) introduced UK pork, and then Mei-Chuan Hsueh and Yvonne Yen shared insights from the Taiwan side into the local pork industry and market situation.

On day 2, the delegation visited the Huannan Market and various processing factories, including Hsin Tung Yang, Mayfull Global Co., and Daddy Leader. The team tasted pork jerky and beef/pork noodles, and had an opportunity to observe actual cutting procedures.

Day 3 began with a meeting with the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine to learn more about the regulations and procedures UK firms need to follow when exporting to Taiwan.

BCCTaipei then hosted the "Quality Pork from BRITAIN Luncheon", which gave local and international importers in Taiwan the chance to sample premium British pork, prepared in four different ways.

Following the lunch, we hosted a matchmaking event, introducing 5 UK exporters to more than 16 Taiwanese and international importers, in an effort to build more connections between key individual players in the industry.
