Pioneering Innovations in Well-being: Great Minds Technology’s couchspace
With Taiwan’s growing focus on mental well-being, couchspace is leading the way in providing practical, accessible support for both individuals and companies. Recognised with the BCCTaipei Better Business Awards' "Innovation for Well-being Award," couchspace is making mental wellness a priority in workplaces and homes alike, transforming lives one meditation session at a time.
In 2024, couchspace received this award for its innovative mental health services in Taiwan. The platform provides mindfulness meditation and mental health support for individuals and partners with companies to enhance employee well-being. Through an interview with Frank, the founder of couchspace, we gained insight into his mission to integrate mental health into daily life, driving lasting, positive change for companies and individuals alike.
Creating a Comprehensive Well-being Solution
Frank’s journey started with a desire to make mental health as accessible as any other daily habit. Inspired by his studies in Canada and the UK, he set out to make wellness tools that felt approachable yet powerful for every user. In 2022, he founded Great Minds Technology Ltd. with the mission to help people find inner peace and bring healing into their everyday lives. By 2023, the company launched the couchspace app, which quickly became one of Taiwan’s largest mindfulness meditation platforms. The app offers over 100 meditation courses crafted by professional psychologists, wellness mentors, and prominent figures, providing users opportunities to find calm amid their busy lives. These courses cover mindfulness meditation, yoga, sound therapy, white noise, and more, delivering personalised experiences to meet each user’s unique needs.
In early 2024, couchspace expanded its services by launching an online psychological counselling feature, enabling users to book remote video consultations with professional psychologists. Since then, this feature has supported over 200 users, overcoming geographical barriers and making mental health care more convenient and accessible.
Overcoming EAP Challenges with Innovative Corporate Well-being Solutions
Beyond focusing on individual mental health, couchspace is helping businesses address employees’ mental health needs. Frank noted that many companies in Taiwan have yet to fully recognise the importance of promoting employee mental health. In response, couchspace offers Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) tailored for companies, including mindfulness meditation workshops, seven-day meditation challenges, and online consultations. These programmes are customised to align with each company’s unique culture and requirements, with the goal of reducing stress, enhancing employee well-being, and fostering a stronger sense of unity.
In 2024, couchspace collaborated with renowned companies such as Cathay Life Insurance, Nanshan Life Insurance, Systex Corporation, Kuang Tien General Hospital, and Pinkoi, delivering over 20 employee mental health workshops. Participants reported significant stress reduction, with 80% indicating improvements in their stress levels and 90% expressing overall satisfaction with the programme. These positive outcomes provided employees with essential mental health support and contributed to healthier work environments within these companies.
Actively Promoting Well-being and Raising Public Awareness
In addition to serving businesses and individual users, couchspace actively participates in various social initiatives, raising public awareness of mental health. Frank stated, “We hope that practices like mindfulness meditation and psychological counselling, which promote healing, can become as routine as yoga or Pilates—a regular part of life, no longer a topic that is ignored or stigmatised.” To achieve this, couchspace collaborates with universities, government bodies, and non-profit organisations to host mental health seminars and activities, promoting awareness to a wider public. At the same time, couchspace leverages social media platforms to share regular mental health knowledge and tips, aiming to help more people recognise the importance of mental well-being and learn how to incorporate these practices into daily life.
As a result, couchspace is not just an innovative service platform but also an advocate for social change, dedicated to reshaping traditional views on mental health and promoting a more accurate understanding and approach to mental health issues across society.
Looking Ahead: Leading a New Trend in Well-being
Reflecting on the journey of founding couchspace, Frank shared, “Over the past two years, I’ve grown not only in terms of technology and business but even more so in my personal development. Seeing the platform actually help users, hearing their feedback, and feeling that our efforts are being recognised—that sense of personal fulfilment and satisfaction is what makes me happiest.”
As the couchspace platform continues to evolve, global demand for mental health support is rising rapidly. Speaking about the company’s future, Frank remarked, “Our vision is to expand the platform into international markets, especially in areas with large Chinese communities, such as the UK and Canada.” In addition, couchspace is actively developing mental health solutions for the elderly population to address the challenges of global aging. Frank added, “As society changes, our goal is to make mental health support easily accessible to people of all ages, enhancing their quality of life.”
