Dong Fang Offshore - First Taiwan Flagged - Walk to Work Vessel
【Taichung City, Taiwan, 22nd October 2021】Dong Fang Offshore Co., Ltd. (DFO), a subsidiary of Hung Hua Construction Co., Ltd. has announced today the successful conversion of the Construction Support Vessel (CSV) “Orient Constructor” into the first Taiwan flagged Walk to Work (W2W) vessel, establishing its position as the pioneer of Service Operation Vessel (SOV) operations in Taiwan. The vessel is currently chartered by a turbine manufacturer to support the commissioning and maintenance activities in Changhua county.
The Conversion
The installation of a Safeway Seagull W2W system was fully completed in Taiwan, providing employment to the local supply chain and is the first and only SOV conversion completed domestically.
The equipment and configuration was selected in close cooperation with leading offshore wind developers and contractors to meet global quality standard in safety and reliability to the domestic offshore wind industry. Furthermore, it is sized for high workability at the larger turbines and foundations even during challenging sea states in Taiwan wind farm.
Such substantial investment by Taiwanese company, demonstrates DFO’s commitment to theTaiwanese market and its dedicated support for the energy transition in Taiwan. To date, Orient Constructor has received strong recognition by customers as the best local W2W solution.
Orient Constructor Accomplishments
Prior to her conversion, since August 2021, the Orient Constructor has succesfully completed an underwater survey project and a geotechnical investigation campaign, both for leading developers in Taiwan. The flexibility and collabaration of the Taiwan flagged vessels and the large local shore team to complete diverse projects is a significant testament of Orient Constructor and her crew’s capability to deliver triumphant offshore wind projects to DFO’s clients in Taiwan.
