Creating Value Beyond Profits
On Monday May 30th the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei in conjunction with the European Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce invited Mr Mark Devadason, Group Head of Regions, Corporate Affairs, at Standard Chartered Bank to address Chamber members.
Mr Davadason talked about ‘Creating Value Beyond Profits: and How to Embed the Sustainability Agenda into Core Business. Standard Chartered keeps sustainability firmly at the core of its business model, not on periphery. As an international bank, Standard Chartered believes it has a role in tackling the environmental, social, and economic challenges that face many communities across its footprint in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Mark shared with Chamber members his insight into how unique culture and values in sustainability agenda can contribute to successful business, and how it has made Standard Chartered a different kind of Bank. Mark highlighted the importance of being successful and staying in business in order to be responsible to your community. In his final re-cap Mark suggested that in order to maintain a successful sustainability agenda companies should look to play to their core strengths, focus on talent and good governance and set their standards out in public for all to see.
About the Speaker
Mark Devadason is currently Group Head of Regions, Corporate Affairs, at Standard Chartered Bank. Based in Hong Kong, Mark is responsible for the in-country Corporate Affairs teams globally with responsibility for internal communications, media relations, government and regulatory relations, brand, sponsorship and sustainability.
Throughout his 25-year career at Standard Chartered Bank, he has had broad based management experience with Wholesale Banking, Consumer Banking and Human Resources and has been a country CEO for the past seven years. Prior to this posting, he was the CEO for Standard Chartered Bank in Thailand from 2008-2010 and for Japan from 2003-2007.
During his tenure in Thailand, Mark also served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce of Thailand and Second Vice Chairman of the Association of International Banks.
