BCCT Announces New Board - June 9th

Taipei, 9 June 2010 – The British Chamber of Commerce Taipei (BCCT) has announced its new General Committee and Supervisors Committee 2010-2012.  Peter Crowhurst, of ING Real Estate Investment Management, has been elected chairman, Tim Basford, Chief Technology and Services Officer Taiwan, HSBC Bank (Taiwan) Limited as Vice Chairman and Richard Smith, Director, UKEAS as Treasurer by the new board of directors during the first board meeting that followed the Chambers recent Annual General Meeting (AGM). The 2010 board of 13 directors and 1 alternate director as well as the 2010 board of 3 supervisors were voted into office by BCCT members at the AGM on May 28th. In the British Chamber of Commerce Taipei annual report to members Peter Crowhurst Chairman reported that 2009 had been a very good year for the chamber.  It has developed a diverse programme of business and social events with 2-3 high profile activities held every month that has attracted more than 1300 attendees throughout the year. The St. Andrews Ball proved to be the social highlight of the year for the local and international community and is planned to be repeated again on November 20th 2010.

Crowhurst went on to outline a number of new business programmes that the Chamber has added to its growing list of activities that have included: Women in Business Networking event aimed at business and professional women working in Taiwan, Chairman’s Quarterly Dinners featuring special high profile guest speakers. To highlight the diversity of the chamber a number of new social activities have included an International Soccer Tournament and trekking to Taiwan’s many beautiful mountains.

Crowhurst concluded the AGM by saying that the Chamber will continue to raise its profile and focus on promoting trade between British and Taiwanese companies as well as continuing to develop an innovative programme of business and social events that will appeal to the wide cross section of its membership.
