In March the Lady Mayoress will accompany the Lord Mayor of London on a visit to Taiwan. During this time the Lady Mayoress has taken time out of her busy schedule to meet with local and international business women and expatriate spouses. On March 18th the Lady Mayoress will host a luncheon for a small number of guests where she will share her experiences regarding her role as the Lady Mayoress, her charitable work, international arts & culture. You are invited to join this luncheon.
The Lady Mayoress is qualified as a Craniosacral Practitioner. In addition the Lady Mayoress is active in charity work including senior citizens clubs and well-being clinics for the elderly, teaches Piano and is a keen sculptor who has participated in a number of exhibitions. About the Lady Mayoress
Barbara Bear is the wife of Mr Alderman Michael Bear. Barbara was born in South Africa, where she attended school and university. She gained a BA Honours Degree in English in 1977 from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. During this time she was also awarded a Licentiate in Piano from Trinity College, London.
In 1978 she emigrated from South Africa to England where she took a Postgraduate Teaching Degree. Her career included teaching at numerous schools and institutions, including numeracy and literacy in HM Prison Service and creative writing in Adult Education.
She married Michael in 1979 and they have a daughter and a son who are at university and school respectively.
She took up sculpture in 1982 and has participated in various exhibitions. Her first public sculpture was unveiled by the then Minister for London, Nick Raynsford in the City Fringe in 1999.
Barbara has taught Piano for many years, and composed an educational musical story, recently premiered at a London Junior School.
She qualified as a Craniosacral Practitioner in 2001, is an active member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association and Council, and works in various clinics.
She took the Freedom of the City in 2006 and became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in 2007.
Barbara is active in charity work in the Ward of Portsoken and the City Fringe, covering senior citizens clubs, well being clinics for the elderly, and 7th July Assistance Centre.
Amongst her hobbies are music, martial arts, travel and people.
