The British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei is honoured to host this special business luncheon inviting Dr. Y.C.Heng, General Director, International Business Center, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Hsinchu, to talk about the work of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Taiwan’s largest, and one of the world’s leading high-tech research and development institutions. Since it was founded in 1973, ITRI has accumulated over 9000 patents and has assisted in the creation of over 150 start-ups and spinoffs, including global semiconductor leaders TSMC and UMC. Its current focus includes Information and Communications, Electronics and Optoelectronics, Nanotechnology, Material and Chemical, Energy and Environment, Advanced Manufacturing and Systems, and Biomedical Technology.

About the speaker - Dr. Yong-Chie Heng
Dr Y.C. Heng is currently General Director, International Business Center, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Hsinchu, Taiwan.  Dr. Heng has a Ph.D., in Wireless Communications, from the University of Wales-Swansea, UK.  His research interests include VHF, UHF, Microwave communications, 2G, 3G, IMT-LTE, WiMAX communications. His is a Fellow of IEE (IET) and a Royal Chartered Engineer.

During his professional career, he has managed countless European and international projects, notably the licensing of the global personal satellite communication system in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for Motorola HQ in the USA. He has been serving as invited technical adviser to government and industry, both in EMEA region and Taiwan.

His previous positions have included:
