In its bid to join the United Nations Kyoto climate pact Taiwan aims to start reducing CO2 emissions with the aim of cutting CO2 emissions to 2005 levels by 2020. At the beginning of September 2010 Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration passed rules requesting companies to supply emissions data needed to launch a carbon trading platform by the year end, some 270 companies have now agreed to supply information to the government.
Dr. Duncan will outline the BP global operations and mix at the energy frontiers, show this linkage with 2008 Taiwan Executive Yuan draft legislation and share CAPCO’s experience of developing energy management project plans in Taiwan designed to further improve energy use, lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with expected government guidelines and be prepared for future domestic policy on carbon trading. CAPCO is a 33 year old JV (61% BP/39% CPC) in the manufacturing and marketing of Pure Terephthalic Acid (PTA) for the textile and packaging industries. The energy and GHG agenda in Taiwan is expected to offer significant scope for innovation, business development and employment opportunities.
