Patents and the new EU Patent laws

On Wednesday January 20th 2010 the BCCT held a special breakfast meeting, inviting Mr John Gray, Director, Patents, Murgitroyd & Company to speak about the European Patent system and how new European Patent Office rules will soon impact the preparation and handling of patent applications from Taiwan and elsewhere. Mr Gray touched upon the changes that will take place in April and the need for companies to develop a thorough IP strategy that takes into consideration not just home markets but also the markets where competitors also have patents.

John Gray joined Murgitroyd as Director, Patents in 2006, having trained and worked as a patent attorney in industry and private practice for twenty years. He has a BSc (1st Hons) Electronics and Physics from the University of Edinburgh and is a Member of the Institute of Physics, Chartered Patent Attorney (UK), European Patent Attorney and European Trade Mark and Design Attorney, and a member of the Licensing Executives Society and a substitute member of the EPI Council (the institute of European Patent Attorneys).
