BCCT/ECCT Luncheon - The Integration of Hong Kong and Mainland China economies

On 03 November, the BCCT and ECCT came together for a joint luncheon with guest speaker Vincent Cheng JP, GBS, OBE, Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. In addition to his career with HSBC, Vincent Cheng has also served on the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Government. His fascinating talk covered the rapid development of China over the past 30 years, and how the closer economic integration of Hong Kong and the Mainland economies since 1997 has created significant opportunities for Hong Kong business. Vincent is positive about the future prospects for Asia Pacific as a whole and the Greater China region in particular, while noting that while both Hong Kong and Taiwan will benefit from their proximity to the Mainland, their paths to prosperity will be necessarily different for a variety of reasons.
