2009 St. Andrew's Ball
by BCCT on 2009-12-09
On Friday November 28th 2009 the British Chamber hosted the eighth St Andrew’s Ball. Always a highlight of the social calendar in Taipei, this year’s ball held at the Grand Formosa Regent Hotel attracted over 250 people. The event kicked-off with a Champagne reception and then members and guests were led into the ballroom by professional Piper Mandy Roveda. Sandy Duncan was Master of Ceremonies for the evening and guests were given a warm welcome by Nicholas Winsor, BCCT Chairman. During dinner David Campbell, Director, British Trade & Cultural Office gave a short speech.
After the introductions Bob Wier said Grace and gave the traditional address to the haggis. Everyone was then treated to a seven course dinner including the world famous dish of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. When the dinner was over it was time to work of the calories with some traditional Scottish County Dancing led by the Hong Kong Ceilidh band and, if that was not enough, for those who were still standing one of Taiwan’s top DJ’s kept the dancing going to the early hours of the morning. Breakfast was served at 1am and carriages took the last of the revellers home at 3.am.
The 2009 St Andrews Ball was made possible to the generosity of our sponsors: American Club, Babi, BP/CAPCO, Carnegie's, Carlsberg-Cottingham, Chanel, Grand Formosa Regent Taipei, Grand Hyatt, HSBC, ICRT, Pernod Ricard, Scottish Development International, Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Standard Chartered Bank, Taipei European School and Waterford Wedgwood.
