Dear Members,

It is time for the British Chamber of Commerce to hold its Annual General Meeting, and notice is hereby given that the Chamber’s 2008 AGM will take place as above.

The AGM’s agenda will be issued to you shortly, and the meeting will deal with a number of important matters, including present and future plans for the Chamber.

It is also time again for our Committee Elections. This is the time when we encourage members to consider taking a more active role in helping to run your Chamber by joining the General Committee or Supervisor’s Committee. We have established a Nominating Committee who will now be looking for the names of members of the Chamber who are prepared to become active members in the General Committee & Supervisors Committee for the next two years. If you are interested then please complete the attached form (click here to download it) and submit it to the Chamber’s Executive Office by post, courier, or fax.

The General Committee consists of 13 members including a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and one Managing General Committee Member who will serve for a term of two years, and will be encouraged to take an active role in the activities of the Chamber. The Supervisor’s Committee consists of three people who have the function to supervise the performance of the General Committee, certify the Chamber’s financial reports and budgets etc. and will also serve for a term of two years.

Written nominations for members of the General Committee and the Supervisors Committee can be proposed by Regular Members and must be submitted on the attached form. The nomination must be signed by the nominator and must be accompanied by a written agreement of the nominee that he will serve as a member of the General Committee or the Supervisors Committee if elected. To qualify to be a General Committee or Supervisor’s Committee Member you should be the “Authorised Representative Regular Member” of the Chamber to be eligible (having either valid large corporate, small corporate, or individual membership of the Chamber). The completed nomination forms must be received at the Chamber’s Executive Office by 4pm, Friday 16 May 2008, and will then be considered and approved by the Nominating Committee.

Once approved by the Nominating Committee and the General Committee & Supervisors Committees, details of the candidates for the General Committee and the Supervisor’s Committee will be circulated by e-mail by Friday 23 May 2008, and then an election will be conducted at the AGM on Saturday 7 June, 2008. The full timetable for the 2008 elections to the General Committee and Supervisor’s Committee are as follows:

1. By 4pm on Friday 16 May 2008 – All completed nomination forms must be received by the Chamber’s Executive Office by post, courier, or fax;

2. By Friday 23 May 2008 - Proxy form and candidate profiles emailed to all members

3. AGM at Grand Hyatt on Saturday 7 June 2008 – Elections held at AGM, and results announced.
