Turn on your TVs and tune into BBC World!!!
Turn on your TVs and tune into BBC World!!! The British Chamber is
delighted to announce that Nik Gowing, the acclaimed main presenter for
BBC World, will be the April featured guest speaker. His biography is
extensive, so mark your calendars now to attend this luncheon to hear
further details of his many achievements.
For exactly ten years, Nik Gowing has been one of the most recognisable
faces of BBC World, the BBC’s award-winning international TV news and
information channel, drawing on his extensive reporting experience over
two decades in diplomacy, defence and global security. He has been a
main anchor for much of BBC World’s coverage of the major international
crises of the past decade, including Kosovo in 1999, the 9/11 terrorist
attacks and the Iraq war in 2003.
Before joining BBC World, Nik was a foreign affairs specialist and
presenter at ITN for 18 years. From 1989 to 1996 he was Diplomatic
Editor for the nightly analysis programme, Channel Four News, from ITN
in London. His reporting from Bosnia was part of the Channel Four News
portfolio which won BAFTA’s Best News Coverage award in 1996, and he
collected another BAFTA award for exclusive coverage of martial law in
Poland in 1981.
Independently of his work for BBC World, Nik has developed a
sought-after analytical expertise on the management of information in
the new transparent environments of conflicts and emergencies. His 1997
study for the Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict in
Washington DC has challenged conventional wisdom on assumptions about
the media’s role in preventing conflict, receiving wide attention and
stirring new international debate.
Join us to welcome Nik Gowing for a special presentation on his career,
the challenges faced every day within the world’s largest newsgathering
operation, and the ways in which technology is changing the way that
news is reported across the globe. Nik’s talk, which includes insightful
video and audio clips, is sure to be stimulating, informative and
extraordinarily engaging.
Cancellations received less than 48 hours
prior to an event will incur a penalty charge.
